On June 2nd, CLS hosted the webinar Returning to Sweden, designed to raise awareness and offer useful guidance for participants planning their return back to Sweden, gathering expertise from SkandiaMäklarna, Sérvulo & Associados and SEB.
The webinar gathered around 50 participants curious to understand how to avoid common pitfalls when returning to Sweden after living abroad. Moderated by CLS Board Member Elin Boavida Berglie, the session focused on the housing, legal, and financial challenges many expats face, while also highlighting the opportunities that come with careful preparation and professional guidance.
Peter Reuterkloo, Manager at SkandiaMäklarna Portugal shared insights into the Portuguese property market and the process of selling a home ahead of relocation. He highlighted the importance of timing, market strategy, and proper preparation in order to secure a successful sale and create financial stability before the move.
Legal and tax expertise was provided by Teresa Pala Schwalbach, Tax Partner at Sérvulo & Associados, which guided participants through the administrative and fiscal aspects of leaving Portugal. The presentation focused on residency status, tax obligations, and the legal considerations individuals should address to avoid complications during the transition between countries.
Meanwhile, SEB addressed the financial side of returning to Sweden, offering advice on banking solutions, pension structures, wealth management, and long-term financial planning. The bank underlined the importance of reviewing savings, investments, and cross-border financial arrangements well in advance of the relocation.
The webinar concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where attendees were able to ask direct questions to the panel of experts. By bringing together specialists from several fields, the event delivered valuable guidance for Swedes preparing to return home — demonstrating how expert insights can simplify what is often a major life transition.
