Stockholm University MBA Executive Exchange 2025

29 May 2025

With great anticipation and excitment, the yearly visit from Stockholm University's MBA Executive was welcomed at NOVA School of Business and Economics. A week filled with valuable lectures, insightful company visits, a networking event, and many important new connections.

The intensive, information-packed week began with a speech by the Ambassador of Sweden to Portugal, H.E. Elisabeth Eklund, who spoke about recent political and economic developments in Portugal, as well as the historical relations between Sweden and Portugal. Later, Business Sweden presented statistics on the business climate in Portugal and explained why it is an attractive market for Swedish enterprises.

After the welcoming remarks, Professor Milton de Sousa from Nova SBE shared valuable insights from international business research, discussing what the future might look like and how to leverage technology to enhance both personal and professional development.

The first afternoon was spent at the offices of Atlas Copco and Essity, where participants attended presentations on each company’s global and Portuguese operations and strategies. The group of 30 executives were MBA candidates from Stockholm University, seeking to refresh their business knowledge and apply it in their careers. They were energetic, dynamic, and creative individuals, all eager to engage with the speakers and their insights. Finishing off the Tuesday with the Executive Exchange Dinner, the prominent networking event featuring a panel discussion (which you can read all about in a separate article).

Following an engaging Wednesday morning lecture on international business in Portuguese-speaking countries by Professor Emanuel Gomes, the group had lunch before departing by bus toward Peniche. There, the afternoon was dedicated to presentations on the blue economy and a visit to SEAentia’s fish farming facility. Seeing the advancements in sustainable aquaculture inspired the group. They gained a deeper appreciation for the important work these professionals are dedicating their careers to. The day concluded with a group dinner by the ocean in Peniche, honoring the day's focus on the blue economy.

Thursday and Friday consisted of more company presentations, with IKEA and Ericsson leading the way Thursday morning. The group had some spare time in the afternoon to enjoy some of what Lisbon has to offer. Lisbon's startup ecosystem was the topic during Friday afternoon, along with the last lecture at Nova.

CLS is highly grateful to all participants of the group—professors, company representatives, and, of course, Stockholm University. For their engagement, insights provided, and the spirit of collaboration that made the week a truly enriching experience for everyone involved.
