The Swedish-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome NoviOcean as a new member of our network. NoviOcean represents a new wave of innovation in renewable energy, combining ocean-based technologies to deliver stable, cost-efficient, and scalable clean power solutions. Their entry into the CLS community strengthens the bridge between Swedish innovation and Portugal’s growing role as a key hub for sustainable energy development.
NoviOcean is developing a next-generation hybrid ocean energy system that integrates wave, wind, and solar power into a single offshore platform. Unlike traditional renewable energy sources, which can be intermittent, NoviOcean’s solution leverages the natural and continuous movement of ocean waves—creating a significantly more stable and predictable energy output. The system is designed to operate closer to shore than conventional offshore wind farms, with flexible deployment options from shallow to deeper waters, and the potential to be co-located with other offshore energy infrastructure.
A key advantage of NoviOcean’s technology lies in its efficiency and scalability. By combining multiple renewable sources, the system can significantly increase energy production per square kilometre of sea area compared to traditional installations. At the same time, it reduces pressure on land use, making it particularly relevant for densely populated or land-constrained regions. The company also highlights long-term durability, with core wave energy components designed for extended operational lifetimes, contributing to lower lifecycle costs and improved sustainability performance.
Portugal, together with regions such as the Azores, Madeira, and Cape Verde, represents a strategic focus area for NoviOcean. These locations offer strong and consistent ocean conditions, making them highly suitable for wave energy deployment. The company sees strong potential in supporting Portugal’s energy transition, improving energy security, and reducing dependency on imported fossil fuels. In addition, hybrid offshore systems can contribute to lowering electricity costs over time, while also enabling complementary applications such as desalination to address freshwater challenges in island regions.
Beyond its technology, NoviOcean brings a highly international and multidisciplinary team, reflecting its global outlook and ambition. With experience spanning energy, engineering, and entrepreneurship, the company is driven by a clear mission: to deliver profitable and stable ocean energy solutions that support the global transition to clean energy.
As a member of CLS, NoviOcean aims to strengthen its presence in Portugal and build partnerships across industry, government, and investment communities. The company’s ambition is to develop pilot projects in the region and scale its technology internationally, contributing to both European and global energy resilience.
CLS is proud to support innovative companies like NoviOcean that combine technological excellence with long-term sustainability goals, and we look forward to following their journey as they help shape the future of renewable energy.
